'Titan A.E.' was an action game that was based on the 20th Century Fox animated Sci-Fi adventure film directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman that came out in 2000. The title refers to the spacecraft that is central to the plot, with A.E. meaning “After Earth.” When the film bombed at the US box office, the publishers decided that it was not worth finishing the project, despite only a few weeks of work left to be done on it, as it could have been an economic risk.
I worked on a number of levels for the game including those set on the Tau14 spacestation, the Trade Ship, a Derelict Spaceship and the Drej Mothership. At this time Blitz tended to have separate modellers and texture artists so I just produced the models for the 3rd person action levels.
I was reponsible for creating the flying sections and working with the tools programmer on testing and refining the software for producing these.
These flying levels were created by building kit pieces and then linking them together along a spline, adding the enemy ships and obstacles as it was built. I produced both the models and the textures for the flying levels which ranged from open space, planet surfaces and inside mining asteroids and spaceships.
Although the game was shown at E3 in 2000 and a Playstation demo disk released containg the Tau14 spacestation and volcanic planet flying section the actual game was never released.
