The Hong Kong track was made at Codemasters outsource department in Kuala Lumpur. When it was returned to us it was a great looking track but was way over budget with some serious slow down in certain areas.
I was tasked with getting the track into budget and hitting the performance target of 30 frames per second.
This involved removing any textures not needed, optimising the buildings, removing assets, repositioning of assets, thinning out the foliage and optimising the terrain. I also colour balanced textures, fixed up the specular maps and remodelled some of the terrain.
